Why Did You Doubt?
This painting figured heavily into Pastor Bradley's sermon. It was painted by Karl Wagner several years ago. These are Karl's thoughts on what he painted. "My concept of this painting was not to portray Jesus as mystically or magically walking on the water, and then reaching Peter in the nick of time. It was my feeling that Jesus never once considered the fact that He could not walk on the water. It never entered His mind. As Peter doubted and then began to sink, calling out to Jesus, our Lord reached out to his friend and follower. I show Jesus squatting on the water, with a patient and loving look, as He tells Peter "Hey man you were doing it! Why'd you doubt that you could do what you were actually doing?" Peter is resting on Jesus' knee like it's the edge of the pool, but he still has a death grip on Jesus' robe. Jesus will reach out to us, He will come to where we are if we just call on Him."
