Isla de Maipo, Chile
This year's missions team worked on a Latin American Child Care school in Isla De Miapo, just southwest of Santiago, Chile. The church members making up this year's team were: Bob Coronato, Irene Coronato, Matt Dwire, Jim Thomas, Roy Whitfield, Keith Crisp, David Braxton, Tina Kabir, Danielle Windus, Cattie Carrol, Elizabeth Anderson, and Joe Owenby.
The LACC is an organization that builds schools in Latin American countries grades K-6. The school is free and for those that can't afford a bus fare to get to school. The schools are often located in poor areas near neighborhoods so that the kids can walk to school. This school in Isla De Miapo will open in March 2008 and will house 360 kids. It will be full with a waiting list the first day it opens.
The missionaries over this work are Mike and Dodie Files.
Churches involved were: First AG Athens, Glad Tidings AG Toccoa, Christ Fellowship in Cartersville, Trinity AG in Sharpsburg, Smyrna AG in Smyrna, GA.
There were four teams: Truss building teams (built 126 trusses and set them in place in 4 days) Electrical team that wired the whole bottom floor, Plumbing team that plumbed all the bathrooms, Brick laying team laid 4 walls.
